Pokemon League Play

We have an official Pokemon League - come join us for some Pokemon fun.

This month we are using the unlimited format - meaning you can use cards from any Pokemon set.  Bring your own 60 card deck containing any amount of basic energy cards and up to 4 copies each of any other card from any set.  (We have pre-constructed decks for sale in the store if you don't have a deck.) Play different opponents and earn points - 10 points per game with 10 bonus points if you win. Earn enough points to get prizes! This is casual / league play - it is not a sanctioned tournament and will not earn you any ratings points.  For more information on league play - please refer to the Pokemon-TCG web-site.

Entry fee: Free!!!

Prizes: Based on your point totals - the more you play, the more you get. For example at 150 points you earn a special 2-card booster pack. You don't have to get all 150 points on the same day - come back each week and keep adding to your point total.

League play on Sunday from approximately 11:00am till 3:00pm.  League play is casual - you can arrive late, get in a few games and leave early if needed.  Due to other events starting on Sunday afternoon around 4pm, we ask players to make room if needed (i.e., if you are still playing when the other event is supposed to start - please allow the other game to begin).

Start: 5:30 pm
End: 10:00 pm

Final!

This event requires a purchase of two(2) sealed booster packs of DC HeroClix: Justice League, from which a player will build a 300 point team. Any Slave of Starro figure (AQUAMAN, THE FLASH, GREEN ARROW, GREEN LANTERN) received in a previous week of the STARRO Attacks! World HeroClix Event may be included as a part of a valid tournament build.

Following the conclusion of this event, the event Champion will receive a STARRO THE CONQUEROR figure.

You can buy it by the brick and use the boosters from your brick each week in lieu of buying 2 boosters each week.  We will label and store your brick in the store until the events are over.

Please register for this event on the Wizkids site.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Tournament

This is an official UDE Sanctioned Hobby League event.

Bring in your minimum 40 card deck, with at most 3 of any one card. This tournament will be "Advanced Format". Please check http://www.yugioh-card.com for a list of forbidden and limited cards. Side decks of exactly 15 cards are optional. Tournament will start approximately at 6:00pm, please try to arrive at least 30 minutes early. Standard floor rules will be followed.

Enrty Fee: $5.00

Prizes:

Participate in 3 or more Hobby League events in October and receive a Hobby League participation parallel rare while supplies last (one per player per month).  The prize pool consists of champion or tournament packs while supplies last, or boosters of the most recent set we have in stock.  Size of the pool depends on the number of players in the event (generally 1 pack per player in the tournament).  Prize pool is split between the top 2 (10 or less people), or top 4 (11 or more people).  The winner gets at least 50% of the prize pool.

Additional prizes are given away at the last tournament of the month based on total match wins for the month (and if that is tied - number of events played will be used).  So the more often you play, the better your chance for one of these prizes.  Additional prizes may include some of the following items depending on availability: playmats, t-shirts, parallel rare cards, or booster packs.

Sign-up on our web-site and register for this event.  Registration means we will hold you a spot in the tournament (up until 5 minutes before the event starts) and we will send you a reminder e-mail the day before the event.

Magic The Gathering

Format: NO-proxy, extended.  This IS a sanctioned event.  Your deck cannot contain any proxies.  Straight swiss, no cut.

If you understood all of the above, you can skip this part:

  • Proxy - you don't own the card you want to use so you write on a basic land card or another card the name of the card you want it to be.  (You need to be able to quote the full text, cost, etc... of the card to your opponent if asked.) NO PROXIES ARE ALLOWED IN THIS SANCTIONED EVENT.
  • Extended - only cards from Seventh edition or newer base sets, or Invasion or newer sets are legal.   See the Wizards Site for more details including a list of banned cards.
  • Sanctioned - the DCI is an agency that sanctions Magic and other Wizards of the Coast events.  Sanctioned events will affect your global ranking and qualify you for additional player rewards.  This IS a sanctioned event.
  • Swiss pairing / no cut - all players play in every round.  So you are not eliminated from the event if you lose a best 2 out of 3 match.  You receive 3 points for each match win, and 1 point for a draw.  The person with the most points at the end of the event is the winner i.e., we will not "cut" to top 8 or 4.

Entry Fee: $4

Prizes: Depending on the number of players, the prize pool will be split between the top 2 (10 or less players), or top 4 (11 or more).  Prize pool is MTG booster packs or equivalent store credit.  First place always receives at least 50% of the prize pool.

Richmond Chess and Games Club - Sponsored by The Connection Games

"With weekly meetings friday evenings at the Minoru Cultural Centre club attendance has surpassed 40 after only 3 meetings. The players range across all ages and skills levels and incidentally there are a number of ladies - young and old there to demonstrate this game is no longer a strictly male domain.

Our club is free to join and it is free to attend. And the games are on a casual drop by basis. So drop by when you can and if you can't well don't sweat it - maybe we'll see you the next week. :)

Attendance has been strong and we are expecting things will only continue to grow each week as word of our existence spreads throughout the lands.

The space provided to us by the City of Richmond is the perfect venue for our group which dabbles at chess, chinese chess (XiangQi), go and even a little backgammon to make the world interesting.

If you are feeling up to the challenge drop by for a game or two."

P.S. We're looking for a volunteer with a vehicle to transport games out to the club and do game demoes on those nights when no staff are available.  If you are interested, drop us a line at info(at)tcgaa.ca.
