Friday Night Magic - Renfrew St.

Format: Booster Draft - Core Set 2011.  We will be drafting the new set (M11) from July 16 until the end of July, we will switch back to standard in August.

Entry: $15, or $5 if you have your own packs.   $5 of your entry fees go into the prize pool.

  • 1st place (overall): Foil prize card, 50% of prize pool as store credit*
  • 2nd place (overall): Foil prize card, 30% of prize pool as store credit*
  • 3rd and 4th place (overall): 10% each of the prize pool as store credit*
  • 2 randmon door prizes of foil prize cards

* If possible - we will award the same prizes to the first place finisher in each pod (e.g., with 2 pods, 1st in each pod gets 40% and the FNM foil, and 2nd in each pod gets 10%.)

These are DCI sanctioned events.  Straight swiss - no cut (which means you will play in all rounds whether you win or lose).

Number of rounds will depend on attendance and pod breakdown:

  • 8 or less players per pod - 3 rounds
  • 9-16 players per pod - 4 rounds

Each round takes about 45 minutes, plus one hour for drafting, we'd like to start promptly at 6pm, but call if you're going to be a few minutes late.

Format: Booster Draft

Draft price of $15.00. ($5 if you bring your own packs.)  We put $5 of store credit into the prize pool for each person in the draft.

  • 3rd and 4th place: 10% each of the prize pool
  • 2 randmon door prizes of foil prize cards

NOTE: If we have 14 or more people in the draft, we will split into 2 pods.  Wizards Event Reporter will be used to determine final standings after the swiss rounds.

If you're not sure how to draft, come in early or on another day and we'll be happy to explain it to you.  In a nutshell - you get 3 booster packs, open your pack, pick a card, and pass it to the person next to you.  You continue picking and passing until you have 45 cards which you keep.  You build a minimum 40 card deck from the cards you selected - the store provides the basic lands (please remember to return them at the end of the night).  Then we play a small tournament to determine the winner.

These are DCI sanctioned events.  Straight swiss - no cut.

Pokemon League Play

We have an official Pokemon League - come join us for some Pokemon fun.

We use the unlimited format - meaning you can use cards from any Pokemon set.  Bringyour own 60 card deck containing any amount of basic energy cards and up to 4 copies each of any other card from any set.  (We have pre-constructed decks for sale in the store if you don't have a deck.) Play different opponents and earn stamps - one stamp per game. Earn enough stamps to get great prizes! This is casual / league play - it is not a sanctioned tournament and will not earn you any ratings points.  For more information on league play - please refer to the Pokemon-TCG web-site.

Entry fee: Free!!!

Prizes: Earn stamps to get great promo cards and other prizes from time to time.

League play on Sunday runs from approximately Noon till 3:00pm.  League play is casual - you can arrive late, get in a few games and leave early if needed.  Most players tend to show up around 1pm.  We often run sanctioned tournaments on Sunday during or after the league if there is enough interest.  Tournaments have an entry fee and booster pack prizes - all participants receive some form of prize.

Legend of the Five Rings - Winner's Choice Tournament  

In the aftermath of the terrible earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12th, 2010, Alderac Entertainment Group decided to auction off the chance to host a Legend of the Five Rings CCG Level 10 Winner's Choice Tournament. The Connection Games & Comics 2 (Renfrew) was honoured when we were asked to host the event by auction winner Andrew Ornatov and The Coastal Katana Dojo Online Forum. The winner of this tournament will be awarded with the power to affect the Legend of the Five Rings Storyline! This will be an event to remember!

 

The Main Event: 

The Winner's Choice Tournament is a constructed minimum 40/40 deck tournament under Celestial Edition rules. Registration will begin at 10 AM, and the tournament will begin at 11 AM.

Deck Construction Note: Imperial Gift 3 (proxied print outs) and August 1, 2010 Legal cards will be legal for this tournament. Also note that the only proxies allowed in your decks will be from Imperial Gift 3

Cost of entry: $30

Winner's Prize: 'Celestial Edition 15th Anniversary' or 'The Plague War' Booster Box, 'The Harbinger' Rare Set, and Storyline Reward

Additional Prizes: 2nd Place - 8th Place based on attendance as well as random prizes.

Every entrant receives a promotional copy of the Strategy card 'Settling the Homeless' (while supplies last) 

 

The Honour Event: 

Gain Honour points for your Clan in the Empire's Yearly Mega Game! Write a Haiku in one or two competition categories (Serious and Funny). Winners to be determined by vote by participating players of the Main Event, as well as Tournament Organizer and Connection Games and Comics' own L5R junkie Anthony 'Raven' Ngo, and Legend of the Five Rings Story Team Lead Fred Wan! Ratling-style entries will also be accepted =) !

A Second Chance at prizes for those who do not finish in the Top 8 of the main event! A booster draft consisting of 1 pack of 'Celestial Edition 15th Anniversary' and 3 packs of 'The Plague War'. Along with Draft Kits provided, 20/20 Draft Deck format.

A constructed minimum 40/40 ladder style tournament for entertainment and for new players to gain insight on the history of Rokugan!

Hordes (&Warmachine) Genesis Release Tournament!

 

What: Bring your Hordes force (or Warmachine force if you don't yet have a Hordes army) to the Primal MK2 release tournament where your army will grow and evolve until it's ready for the final confrontation! Crush everyone before you to be named the Genesis Champion or win more battles than any of your own faction to win a faction coin for Trollbloods, Circle of Orboros, Skorne or Legion of Everblight!

Note on list building: We will be using a list building range of 25/35/50pts instead of the range listed in the rules.

Draft price of $15.00. ($5 if you bring your own packs.) We put 1.5 booster packs (M11) into the prize pool for each person in the draft.

Approximate Prize Breakdown (per pod):

  • 1st place: 45% of the prize pool
  • 2nd place: 25% of the prize pool
  • 3rd and 4th place: 15% of the prize pool 
(The prize breakdown for an 8-player draft would be 5-3-2-2).
 
This will be DCI sanctioned as a casual event. If there is enough player interest, we can run multiple single-elimination booster drafts.

Pokemon League Play

We have an official Pokemon League - come join us for some Pokemon fun.

We use the unlimited format - meaning you can use cards from any Pokemon set.  Bringyour own 60 card deck containing any amount of basic energy cards and up to 4 copies each of any other card from any set.  (We have pre-constructed decks for sale in the store if you don't have a deck.) Play different opponents and earn stamps - one stamp per game. Earn enough stamps to get great prizes! This is casual / league play - it is not a sanctioned tournament and will not earn you any ratings points.  For more information on league play - please refer to the Pokemon-TCG web-site.

Entry fee: Free!!!

Prizes: Earn stamps to get great promo cards and other prizes from time to time.

League play on Sunday runs from approximately Noon till 3:00pm.  League play is casual - you can arrive late, get in a few games and leave early if needed.  Most players tend to show up around 1pm.  We often run sanctioned tournaments on Sunday during or after the league if there is enough interest.  Tournaments have an entry fee and booster pack prizes - all participants receive some form of prize.

  • 33+: 6 rounds

These are sanctioned Konami events, so please remember to bring your COSSY Id card.  If you do not have a COSSY Id card yet, we can assign one to you at the event.  Please arrive before 6pm so we can start on time.
