Friday Night Magic - Renfrew St.

Format: Standard

Entry: $5 - into the prize pool.

  • 1st place (overall): Foil prize card, 50% of prize pool as store credit

  • 3rd and 4th place (overall): 10% each of the prize pool as store credit
  • 2 randmon door prizes of foil prize cards

These are DCI sanctioned events.  Straight swiss - no cut (which means you will play in all rounds whether you win or lose).

Number of rounds will depend on attendance and pod breakdown:

  • 8 or less players per pod - 3 rounds
  • 9-16 players per pod - 4 rounds
  • 17+ players - 5 rounds

Each round takes about 45-60 minutes, we'd like to start promptly at 6pm, but call if you're going to be a few minutes late.

Pokemon League Play

We have an official Pokemon League - come join us for some Pokemon fun.

We use the unlimited format - meaning you can use cards from any Pokemon set.  Bringyour own 60 card deck containing any amount of basic energy cards and up to 4 copies each of any other card from any set.  (We have pre-constructed decks for sale in the store if you don't have a deck.) Play different opponents and earn stamps - one stamp per game. Earn enough stamps to get great prizes! This is casual / league play - it is not a sanctioned tournament and will not earn you any ratings points.  For more information on league play - please refer to the Pokemon-TCG web-site.

Entry fee: Free!!!

Prizes: Earn stamps to get great promo cards and other prizes from time to time.

League play on Sunday runs from approximately Noon till 3:00pm.  League play is casual - you can arrive late, get in a few games and leave early if needed.  Most players tend to show up around 1pm.  We often run sanctioned tournaments on Sunday during or after the league if there is enough interest.  Tournaments have an entry fee and booster pack prizes - all participants receive some form of prize.

What: Legend of the 5 Rings is a Collectible card game where you take control of a clan of samurai in a fantasy setting and battle for domination against other clans on the battlefield, in the courts and even on spiritual realms. It’s time for Battlegrounds, the hobby league organized play program for the World of Warcraft TCG! Everything you loved about BGs is back:

Legend of the 5 Rings Open Gaming!

 

What: Legend of the 5 Rings is a Collectible card game where you take control of a clan of samurai in a fantasy setting and battle for domination against other clans on the battlefield, in the courts and even on spiritual realms. Build a deck of abilities and equipment to use with your deck of samurai, magical shugenja and politicos to defend your homeland!

Yu-Gi-Oh! Advanced Format - Hobby League

Format: Advanced Constructed.  Please refer to YuGiOh-card.com for a list of limited and forbidden cards.

Entry: $3.50

Prizes: Turbo Packs (when available), booster packs of recent sets, and/or store credit are awarded to the top 4 players after the swiss rounds.  The number of rounds will depend on the number of players per:

  • 4-8: 3 rounds
  • 9-16: 4 rounds
  • 17-32: 5 rounds
  • 33+: 6 rounds

These are sanctioned Konami events, so please remember to bring your COSSY Id card.  If you do not have a COSSY Id card yet, we can assign one to you at the event.  Please arrive before 6pm so we can start on time.

Pokémon League now at Renfrew!

Our Renfrew location is now a Pokémon League Store! League will be held every Friday afternoon beginning January 14, from 330 PM till 6 PM! Prize cards to be given out for participating! Fun for all ages and skill levels!

We use the unlimited format - meaning you can use cards from any Pokemon set.  Bring your own 60 card deck containing any amount of basic energy cards and up to 4 copies each of any other card from any set.  (We have pre-constructed decks for sale in the store if you don't have a deck.) Play different opponents and earn stamps - one stamp per game. Earn enough stamps to get great prizes! This is casual / league play - it is not a sanctioned tournament and will not earn you any ratings points.  For more information on league play - please refer to the Pokemon-TCG web-site.

Entry fee: Free!!!

Prizes: Earn stamps to get great promo cards and other prizes from time to time.

Friday Night Magic - Renfrew St.

Format: Standard

Entry: $5 - into the prize pool.

  • 1st place (overall): Foil prize card, 50% of prize pool as store credit
  • 2nd place (overall): Foil prize card, 30% of prize pool as store credit
  • 3rd and 4th place (overall): 10% each of the prize pool as store credit
  • 2 randmon door prizes of foil prize cards

These are DCI sanctioned events.  Straight swiss - no cut (which means you will play in all rounds whether you win or lose).

Number of rounds will depend on attendance and pod breakdown:

  • 8 or less players per pod - 3 rounds
  • 9-16 players per pod - 4 rounds
  • 17+ players - 5 rounds

Each round takes about 45-60 minutes, we'd like to start promptly at 6pm, but call if you're going to be a few minutes late.

Draft price of $15.00. ($5 if you bring your own packs.)  We put $5 of store credit into the prize pool for each person in the draft.

  • 3rd and 4th place: 10% each of the prize pool
  • 2 randmon door prizes of foil prize cards

NOTE: If we have 14 or more people in the draft, we will split into 2 pods.  Wizards Event Reporter will be used to determine final standings after the swiss rounds.

If you're not sure how to draft, come in early or on another day and we'll be happy to explain it to you.  In a nutshell - you get 3 booster packs, open your pack, pick a card, and pass it to the person next to you.  You continue picking and passing until you have 45 cards which you keep.  You build a minimum 40 card deck from the cards you selected - the store provides the basic lands (please remember to return them at the end of the night).  Then we play a small tournament to determine the winner.

These are DCI sanctioned events.  Straight swiss - no cut.

It’s time for Battlegrounds, the hobby league organized play program for the World of Warcraft TCG! Everything you loved about BGs is back:

Through earning achievements like winning with a theme deck or bringing new players to the game, you can earn Badge of Justice cards you’ll be able to redeem for exclusive crafted cards. 

Official Battlegrounds time slot is 1pm to 6pm on Saturdays.  If there are enough players, we'll run a constructed tournament - $5 entry, booster packs and promo's as prizes. 

Battlegrounds themselves are free for now - just show up with your cards and get free stuff!

League play on Sunday runs from approximately Noon till 3:00pm.  League play is casual - you can arrive late, get in a few games and leave early if needed.  Most players tend to show up around 1pm.  We often run sanctioned tournaments on Sunday during or after the league if there is enough interest.  Tournaments have an entry fee and booster pack prizes - all participants receive some form of prize.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Regionals

Location: Best Western Kings Inn Burnaby Hotel ~ 5411 Kingsway, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, V5H 2G1

Time: Registration will start at 10am, and the tournament will start at 11am.  Registration closes at 10:45am or when we run out of room, so try to be there at 10am.  We will take a short lunch break between rounds 2 and 3 likely.  

Format: Advanced Constructed.

Entry: $25

All players will receive 5 booster packs of Starstrike Blast and a promo participation card (while supplies last).  

Tournament will be swiss pairings (number of rounds will depend on the number of players), with a top 8 cut.

In addition to the invitatin to compete at Nationals, the top finishers may win playmats, booster packs, binders, and other merchandise. There will be lots of random door prizes and possibly even some side events (space permitting).

If you are coming from out of town - ask the hotel about special rates for players in the event - $89/night for a single king room, and $99/night for a double queen room.

Entry Fee: $30

Format

  • Sealed Deck Limited with Top 8 Booster Draft. 
  • 6 Scars of Mirrodin boosters per player for the Sealed Deck portion, 3 Scars of Mirrodin
    boosters per player in the Top 8 draft.
  • Deck lists are required.

Tournament Length

  • Swiss rounds - 50 minutes per round
  • Top 8 matches will have no time limit
  • Number of Swiss rounds based on attendance according to the following chart:

    Attendance Swiss rounds
    8 3, Single-Elimination
    9-16 4
    17 - 32 5
    33 - 64 6
    65 - 128 7


Advancement

  • All players may participate in all Swiss rounds.
  • The top 8 players after the final Swiss round will advance to the top 8 single-elimination finals.

Top 8

  • Top 8 matches will be best 2 of 3
  • Top 8 matches will have no time limit.
  • Where necessary, the standings after the Swiss rounds will still be used to determine final order in the standings.

Notes

  • Registration begins at 11am, and packs will be handed out at approximately 11:45am.
  • 24K, REL Competitive
  • All The Magic: The Gathering Tournament Rules and the Magic: The Gathering Infraction Procedure Guide are in effect for this event unless specifically overruled by information in this Format Document. Rules documents can be found in the DCI Document Center.
  • Players must bring pen, paper, card sleeves and appropriate counters.
  • This is a premier Magic tournament.
