News

• We're going to be selling comics and graphic novels at the Granville St. store.  POW! Comics and The Connection Games are joining forces to bring comics to the Marpole area.  Also in related news, effective March 1st, Brendon will be taking over as manager in the Granville store.  I (Mike) will still be around, but Brendon will be handling more of the day to day operations.  I hope you'll all give him a warm welcome.
• Wizards of the Coast has announced some changes in how it will be releasing core sets in the future.  Starting with the core set release this July they will be releasing core sets every year. Called Magic: The Gathering 2010 Core Set, 50% of the cards will be new cards - not re-prints.  The annual sets will be Standard legal for approximately 15 months, meaning that in 2010, both the 2010 core set and the 2011 core set will be legal for a number of months in the early fall.  For a complete article on this and a sneak peak at some of the new cards, check out the ICV2 article here.
• Board games go big screen!  It was announced in February that they are going to make Clue into a movie (again), and apparently there are already projects in the works for movies based on Monopoly and Candyland.  Hmmm...  I think I'll wait for the Settlers of Catan movie.  For more info check out the ICV2 article here.
• Konami has wrested control of Yu-Gi-Oh! in North America away from Upper Deck it seems. This means no more organized play as we have come to know it.  We're not sure what will happen with player rankings, but it looks like Konami is going to step up and provide some OP support.  We've set up our account with them, and we'll be hosting our first event - the Crimson Crisis Sneak Peak on Sunday March 1st at both stores - Victoria Dr. at 11:30am and Granville at 3:30pm.  We'll keep running our weekly events, and we'll keep you posted as we learn more about the new programs.
• Fantasy Flight Games has announced another big box expansion for Arkham Horror: Innsmouth Horror.  Looks like it will be a fun one - check out the article on the FFG web-site.  The expansion is due out in May 2009 apparently, but don't quote me on that.  Also from FFG this past month, they announced a new Talisman expansion: Descend into the Dungeon.  This expansion is also expected for May 2009, but again, don't quote me.
• Attention Magic Players: we have the Nicol Bolas playmats!  In March we will be giving these away as prizes at our FNM's at both stores and as a door prize at our casual EDH tournaments on Thursday nights at Granville (while supplies last).
• Need a hint for the Magic web-site scavenger hunt?  Here is a link for you.  Bring in your completed form - we have the dice.  We also still have a few packs of the Euro lands if you purchase a booster box of any MTG set, and we still have the Star Wars Alliance and Empire boosters if you pick up any Star Wars product.  (Did you buy something Star Wars and not get the promo - come and see us to rectify the situation.)

• Saturday Mar 7th: World of Warcraft TCG - Blood of Gladiators Sneak Peak - Victoria Dr.
  
• Sunday Mar 8th: Help support more Canadian players at Worlds this year.  Our first Pokemon Fundraiser tournament .
• March 13th - 15th: Trumpeter Salute - gaming convention.  This year they have joined forces with the Weathertop folks to make a single larger event!  Salute has been going on annually since 1973, come check it out at the Bonsor Community Center in Burnaby.
• Saturday Mar 14th: Warmachine Steamroller 4.0 tournament at Salute.  Space is going fast, so book your spot soon.
• Saturday Mar 14th: World of Warcraft Miniatures Spectral Safari at Victoria Dr. This is a sealed event, and first prize is a Spectral Tiger Loot card - worth approximately $1000.00 on the open market.
• Saturday Mar 21st: D&D Game Day - Granville.  Celebrate the release of the Player's Handbook 2!
• Tuesday Mar 24th: Vs. Super Cross-over Sealed - this is the t-shirt event for March at Granville.
• Saturday Apr 4th: World of Warcraft TCG - Realm Qualifier - Victoria Dr.
