What is Pauper?
Pauper is a format where only cards that have a common printing are legal to play. It follows traditional 60-card deck construction (no more than 4 copies of a card except for basic land). Typically it plays using all sets, but some of the older cards are difficult to find and the card pool is huge. So, to make Pauper more accessible, we are going to run a Modern Pauper League.
What is Modern Pauper?
Modern Pauper is the same as Pauper except for two changes. First, the sets are restricted to only those in Modern. Second, a card is only legal if it has a common printing within the Modern Sets (Time Spiral "Timeshifted" cards do not count as commons). For example, Ornithopter, which is printed as a common in Antiquities is not legal for play because its reprints in the Modern sets are only uncommons.
What sets are in Modern?
The sets in Modern are those printed after the change to the new ‘Modern’ card border. This includes, all Core Sets 8thedition and newer, all Blocks Mirrodin and newer, and Coldsnap. For a complete list of all the sets in Modern, check out the Wizards of the Coast's website:
